24th March – Chair’s message to members

Dear Members,

Firstly, I hope you are all well and safe. What strange and challenging times we are in.

BAPT have been working hard to respond to the continuous changes in Government guidance and directives around Covid19. As an interim measure, BAPT would like to issue the following guidance about the impact on therapeutic work with children and families. BAPT are aware that the most recent Government announcement of complete ‘lockdown’ for the UK means face to face therapy work is no longer an option, however we would like to offer the following guidance as an interim guidance about Play Therapy practice. BAPT COVID19 FINAL This will be under review by the Professional Practice subcommittee and the BoD. Special thanks to Lynne Borrowdale (Chair of PR and Communication) and Donne Benson (Chair of Professional Practice) for writing this document.

In essence, BAPT would like to remind all their members to continue to practice within their skills and competencies and keeping the child’s best interests at the heart of all decision making processes. Adhering to BAPT Ethical Basis for Play Therapy and safeguarding procedures is paramount.

Take good care and we hope you are safe and well.

Ruth Lazarus, Chair of Directors, BAPT
