Filial Therapy Training Information
This course trains participants in the original Guerney family therapy model of Filial Therapy focused on dynamic family issues related to Attachment and Trauma. It is a highly effective evidence-based intervention integrating family therapy and play therapy to address child and family problems. In this intensive practice based training therapists learn to train and supervise parents as they conduct special child-centred play sessions with their own children (ages 3-12+) to address a range of child and family problems and to strengthen family relationships.
The efficacy of Filial Therapy is demonstrated by a 50 year research history in which its approach to empowering parents to help their children with oppositional behaviours, anxiety, depression, abuse and neglect, traumatic events, attachment difficulties, adoption and foster care, relationship problems, parental divorce, family substance abuse, family reunification, chronic illness, and others is evidenced.
Offering a unique and playful approach to parents, Filial Therapy is a relatively short term intervention with long term benefits for child and family change.
