I have experience working in
I have over 25 years’ experience in working in a professional and therapeutic way with adults and children in various capacities in a variety of private, charitable and local authority settings (Family centres, support groups, primary schools, private and Social Services Nurseries and School Counselling Services).
I work closely with teachers and parent/carers to provide support, empathic listening, and practical strategies and use evidence based therapy to provide a way to measure progress in an environment that helps children and families to thrive.
I see my role as a supporting the parent carers as equal partners on this journey while always respecting the clients right to confidentiality as they work through difficult life experiences. Working in an open, honest manner has enabled me to effectively reach individuals and families that may be disaffected, hard to reach or closed down.
I can provide individual therapy, group therapy, nurture groups in schools and specific community settings. I use neuroscience and attachment theory to support my work with clients in a non-directive setting, however some directive work may be appropriate. I have experience with school refusal: past or present attachment difficulties ( relationship bonds between the child and their parental caregiver); physical and cognitive congenital and acquired disability; cutting and self harm; anxiety; divorce and separation; childhood trauma; pre and postnatal anxieties, and families and children who have suffered loss and bereavement.
I am trained in media and crisis management and am able to support children and schools who have suffered traumatic bereavement, for example, the sudden death of a child.
I offer a dedicated playroom with art, sand, water, clay, musical instruments, and wide range of culturally sensitive therapeutic toys and resources to aid therapeutic expression, but can also transport these resources to provide a peripatetic service to other locations.
